The Kilkenny Skatepark Project.

The project itself has been in the pipeline for over twenty years;
with numourous campaigns taking on the weight of pushing it forward.
Unfortunately over the years a lot of the campaigns have lost
momentum and drive; which is understandable considering the number
of obstacles that need to be overcome for the project to see the
light of day.

Back in the “good old days” (in or around 2005), Minister for the
Environment Dick Roche allocated €2million for skateparks up and down
the country. However, in the Ministers own words, “Kilkenny missed
the boat” of that round of funding. At the time, the political will
was not sufficient to get a Skate Park built in Kilkenny.

With the guidance of Mick Greene the project has been given a new
lease of life; and finally it has shown some progress. With the
establishment of USK (Urban Sports Kilkenny) the skaters have
a ground floor to come together and support the campaign.

Numourous generations of Kilkenny youths have grown up with the
unfulfilled promise of a skate park. If you believe in providing
the Youth of Kilkenny a safe and active social outlet, please
support our campaign for a new Skate Park.

About Urban Sports Kilkenny.

USK is a Youth/Sports club. Centered around urban sports in the
Kilkenny area. The aim of the group is to bring kids together in their
hobbies, allowing them to meet others with the same interests.

We are looking to support the youth in establishing their sport and gaining
recognition for it, allowing them to progress,

Our long term aim is to provide a Skatepark in Kilkenny City for the youth,
which has been a campaign in the area for twenty years. We are looking to finally
push it to completion.

We welcome all ages to participate in the club.
